What is Pityriasis Rosea?
Pityriasis Rosea is a rash that forms on the skin, which can take various forms and can spread around the body from the initial location.
Symptoms:
Sufferers of Pityriasis Rosea will develop a rash on the skin that appears similar to other skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Some mild itching usually accompanies the skin discolouration
Causes of Pityriasis Rosea:
The causes of the skin condition are unknown. Research in to Pityriasis Rosea has determined that it is not a result of either bacterial or fungal causes, however it may be cause by an unknown virus.
How is Pityriasis Rosea diagnosed?
Whilst your dermatologist may be able to recognise the symptoms visually, however as the condition can be similar in appearance to other skin diseases, test are usually required to confirm the diagnosis.
How is it treated?
The condition is normally left to heal naturally and typically takes around 8 weeks to clear. The symptoms are eased with a steroid cream during the healing process.
