What is Excessive Sweating?

Sweating is the body’s natural attempt to cool down and also occurs as a reaction to stress. When the body produces excessive sweat particularly in the armpits, palms or forehead, this may be a sign of bodily functions not being regulated correctly.

Symptoms:

Excessive sweating can be embarrassing for sufferers, particularly in social situation as it can have visible symptoms and be unavoidable. Excessive sweat is often localised to specific areas of the body and may last for several hours at a time.

Causes of excessive sweating:

The causes of excessive sweating can be physiological, stemming from the body’s inability to regulate temperature, and can also be brought about from neurological activity (stress) and other systemic conditions.

How is excessive sweating diagnosed?

Excessive sweating can be easily identified and tested by your dermatologist. In many cases the patient themselves will present with an accurate diagnosis

How is it treated?

Depending on the severity of the sweating, treatment can be administered by prescription strength antiperspirants, oral medication, and in some cases surgery of the glands.
